The ethics of authorship in academic publications is important. There are authorship guidelines including the commonly used “International Committee of Medical Journal Editors” guidelines for publications arising from biomedical research. In this seminar we will discuss some of the developments in medical research conduct that have begun to put pressure on the ICMJE guidelines as the gold standard for authorship rules. These include a trend towards large interdisciplinary and diverse teams commonly known as “team science”.
